Surmont Challenge 2010 – Mountain Bike Marathon, held Sunday, July 18, through the surrounding forests of Azuga gave me plenty of things to think at.
Each and every of the 38th km routes was great. Why I speak of more than 1 route? Because the forest trail changed substantially over time. Let’s call them Route 1, R2, R3, etc… Early participants have competed on R1, and when I say early, I think of Conpet team, Emmedue, and other amateurs much, much better than myself.
R1 turned into R2, R2 in R3, R3 into C3PO – oops, wrong story – and as time passed, R4 brought tons of mud, R5 brought rain, R6 some serious descents. No, I don’t mind falling or pushing the bike uphill. Too bad I had to be very prudent on the last descent, due to the rain which ruined the track and all the traction was gone all of a sudden. All in all, I had fun!
I was very disappointed because I didn’t get a T-shirt. I’d gladly pay more next time, just to make sure I get a branded jersey from the competition.
Enjoy the pictures! No, the cat was not part of the competition, but we played a lot.
